Perhaps at some point today I will write a blog entry that does not in some way involve SGU... but then again, probably not.
Anyway, back to Heroes.
In the last few weeks, the major story point has been Mohinder's father's discovery that Samuel grows more powerful the more heroes he surrounds himself with.He sends Hiro back in time to rescue the film, which Mohinder conveniently burned prior to being shotgunned with pieces of earth thrown by Samuel. Hiro goes back and not only rescues the film, but Mohinder as well.
Sylar takes over Parkman's body on a more permanent basis, but Parkman gets back at him by forcing the cops to shoot Sylar/Parkman. His idea was to kill himself so that Sylar would die. Despite being utterly riddled with bullets, ParkLar does not die. At around the same time, Peter and Nathan are busy searching out Parkman. They find him at the hospital, where Peter heals him with that kid's power from a few episodes ago. A big dramatic thing ensues where Nathan ends up touching SyMan, thus transferring Sylar's consciousness back to Nathan (who is actually just Sylar with Nathan's memories, so Sylar really just gets back into his body).
Anyway!
Today's episode shows three groups having Thanksgiving (how apropos that I'm watching it today!). First we see the Bennets: Noah, Claire, Noah's wife (makes her much anticipated return to the show.... what? I like her!), her new boyfriend Doug who is just weird, and happiest for me, we also see the return of Elisabeth Rohm as Lauren Gilmore, the woman who wanted to have an affair with Noah back in Once Upon a Time in Mexico. It was kind of, dare I say it, cute that Noah found her again. I liked her back in the first episode she was in, so I was excited to see her back. The whole segment was highly entertaining. Between Doug, Claire, and Lauren, the whole thing was very amusing and provided a lighter interlude between the other, far more dramatic segments.
Of course, Gretchen makes her hideous return, and I wanted to vomit. Just when I thought she was written out of the show! Dangnabbit!
The second segment involved the Patrelli family. Angela shows up at Peter's where Sythan is hiding out. Despite the two brothers badgering her about giving them answers about why Sylar is Nathan and Parkman is Sylar and all that mumbo jumbo, she insists on sitting down and having a great Thanksgiving dinner. Just like everything's normal. Pie anybody?
She does get around to confessing to forcing Parkman to work his magic. This is right before Sylar takes over and messily devours the entire pie. "I feel like I haven't eaten in months!" Positively cheesy!!
Anyway, Sylar almost kills Angela (this close), but Nathan fights back from inside and "they" fly out a window. Peter promises his mother that he will do everything he can to rescue Nathan.
Spoiler Alert!!! If you don't want to know about future things in the show, skip to the next paragraph. You've been warned. Adrian Pasdar, who plays Nathan in the show, has officially been written out of the show. There was a big stink about it online a few weeks ago, since he was apparently not told ahead of time that he was not going to be back. Apparently, he and Sylar have a big final battle... and he loses. Don't look for Nathan to return as a full time character.
End Spoiler!
Anyway, the third and best segment was the one involving the peeps at the carnival. Hiro is storming around getting all huffy that Samuel won't give Charlie back. Lydia (played by Dawn Olivieri who is fantastic and who I'm happy to see have a central role in an episode) wants to help him, and they end up going back in time to when Joseph was killed. For those who may not remember, Joseph is Samuel's brother. The season opened with Samuel burying him.
Last episode, we saw Mohindertalk to Jacob about the powers Samuel had that I touched on earlier. Jacob told Mohinder that he had spent his life keeping the true power Samuel had secret. Samuel, being the sneaky devil he is, listened to this conversation. After Mohinder leaves, Samuel confronts Joseph about his "betrayal" and ends up killing him. Hiro and Lydia witness this, and finally the mystery of how Joseph died has been solved. They return to the present day where Lydia talks to Edgar about what she saw. Edger, by the way, is Slicey McSlice'Em. As the carnival folks sit down for Thanksgiving dinner, Samuel starts a speech about how the traitor, the one who killed Samuel, is sitting at this very table. Edgar confronts him, Samuel almost kills him, Hiro stops time just in... well, time. He tells Edgar that they will kill Samuel, then Edgar runs off. I was extremely thrilled that they didn't kill Ray Park's character off quite yet. I'm curious to see what shenanigans Hiro and Lydia think up to expose Samuel.
But wait... we still have cliffhanger endings!!
- Claire steals the compass her father has that goes to the carnival. She and Retch...en decide to go find out where it leads. The preview for next week confirms that they get there, and Samuel is waiting with open arms.
- Hiro confronts Samuel after the dinner and says that if he doesn't get Charlie back, he's leaving. Samuel says "I don't think so" and the guy with the funky dreadlocks goes all Haitian on Hiro. Hiro mumbles something strange about going to save somebody (the name eludes me at the moment) and disappears. This obviously upsets Samuel. Where did Hiro go, and what happened to his brain?
- This wasn't exactly in this episode, but it happened in the preview. Peter finds Sylar and they are fighting. Peter's winning. Sylar says "You gonna beat him out of me?" Peter responds "Not exactly" as he's holding up a nail gun. Cue blood curdling Sylar screams. Torture on Heroes.... My curiosity is piqued.
Best: Noah and Lauren "hooking up." Seriously, that was my favorite part. Also, Lydia getting a bigger part. Get there, cool characters!
Worst: For the sake of not talking about her I will say the worst part of the show was, Angela's bizarre need to have Thanksgiving with her son and her dead... umm, son... thing.... person confused about his identity. Yeah.
Best Line: "And you... you have raised the evil incarnate bar to an entirely new level. Thank you... for giving me something to strive for." -Sylar, to Angela
